Senior Insights Analyst
Location: Sydney (hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Behavioural Insights Analyst to join a purpose-driven organisation at the intersection of behavioural science, data analytics, AI, and strategic storytelling.
This standalone specialist role will play a critical part in understanding what user data is telling us and translating those insights into meaningful actions that shape strategy, products, services, and external impact.
With the core data pipeline already established, you will have the opportunity to begin analysing insights immediately while partnering with internal teams and external data specialists to continuously enhance analytical capability, including refining user journeys, mapping user intent, and improving data-driven decision making.
You will focus on exploring behavioural and conversational data, particularly from AI-enabled digital services, to uncover trends, identify opportunities, and provide evidence-based recommendations that influence organisational priorities, product evolution, policy conversations, and social impact outcomes.
The role exists to answer one key question:
“What is the data telling us, and what should we do because of it?”
Key ResponsibilitiesBehavioural Insights & Strategic Analysis
- Identify emerging behavioural trends across digital platforms and user ecosystems.
- Combine qualitative and quantitative evidence to generate meaningful, actionable insights.
- Develop hypotheses and investigate the drivers behind user behaviours and engagement patterns.
- Translate complex analysis into clear behavioural insights that can inform product, service, marketing, content, impact, and delivery strategies.
Strategic Impact & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with senior leaders and business functions to influence strategic priorities, investment decisions, and planning through evidence-based insights.
- Develop insight reports, executive briefings, and strategic narratives for leadership teams, government stakeholders, and funding partners.
- Translate data findings into compelling stories that demonstrate impact and guide decision making.
Data Analytics, AI & Reporting
- Analyse conversational and behavioural data from AI-enabled digital services to uncover user trends and opportunities.
- Use SQL and BigQuery (or similar cloud data platforms) to extract insights from large, semi-structured datasets.
- Build clear, accessible dashboards and reporting tools using platforms such as Looker Studio.
- Define analytical requirements, business logic, and user journey frameworks to support ongoing optimisation of data capabilities.
- Collaborate with technology and data teams to ensure new data sources and system changes align with data architecture and governance frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI-enabled analytics to improve insight generation and decision making.
Data Storytelling & Communication
- Present complex information in a clear, engaging, and accessible way.
- Produce thought leadership pieces, strategic reports, and insights that drive action.
- Tailor communication styles for executive, technical, government, and external audiences.
Data Governance, Ethics & Safety
- Champion the responsible and ethical use of behavioural and sensitive data.
- Support privacy-by-design principles and commitments to responsible data practices.
- Ensure recommendations are supported by robust evidence, governance, and ethical considerations.
- Identify emerging behavioural patterns and signals that may indicate changing user needs or vulnerabilities.
About You
You are an analytical and strategic thinker who can move beyond reporting data to uncover the “why” behind behaviours and translate findings into meaningful organisational action.
You will bring:
- Experience across behavioural insights, customer insights, research, strategy, analytics, or a related discipline, with the ability to synthesise qualitative and quantitative evidence.
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate analysis into recommendations that influence organisational priorities or policy decisions.
- Proven SQL capability, with experience extracting insights from large datasets using Google BigQuery or similar cloud data warehouses.
- Experience developing automated, user-friendly dashboards and reporting tools (e.g. Looker Studio).
- Experience defining business logic, user journeys, and analytical requirements to guide technical teams and data specialists.
- A strong track record of translating complex digital, conversational, or behavioural data into compelling narratives that influence product development, policy, funding, or organisational outcomes.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging executive and external stakeholders.
- The ability to operate independently, build credibility across diverse teams, and thrive in a complex environment.
- Curiosity, critical thinking, and strong judgement — someone who naturally asks “why?” rather than simply reporting “what.”
Desirable Experience
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Experience engaging with government or policy stakeholders.
- Background within social impact, healthcare, education, or purpose-led organisations.
- Knowledge of privacy-by-design, ethical AI, and data governance principles.
